This can be confusing especially when shopping for the top of the bed items such as duvet covers, down comforters and coverlets etc..

You may find that most top of the bed items, specifically the ones identified above are available in one King size.

  • Here are the sizes for a King and Cal King.
    • King – 76” W x 80” L
    • Cal King – 72” W x 84” L

Most manufacturers of bed linens use the same size pillowcases, flat sheets and other top of the bed items for both a King & Cal King as they will fit both sizes of bed.

  • The only items that are different are the fitted sheet and bed skirt. This is also true with Full & Queen bedding.

You will want to insure that you purchase the correct fitted sheet as they are not interchangeable between the two sizes.

  • The regular King is by far more popular, however, those that are taller often times opt for the Cal King due to the extra length.
  • Essentially a regular King mattress is the equivalent of two twin mattresses.

Below is an illustration of the different size mattresses.
