How is cotton processed?

The processing of Cotton...

Cotton Boll

For thousands of years, cotton has been grown, harvested and used for a variety of purposes. The process by which cotton is harvested, grown and woven has changed over the last century, although the basic steps have remained relatively the same.

Cotton really is the fabric of our lives. It makes up most of our clothing and is also used to make household textiles. Many people are also unaware of the fact that cotton seed oil is found in a lot of the foods we eat.

Not all cotton is the same as there are various grades and qualities. Here’s a look at some of the things that determine the quality of cotton:

  • Soil
  • Species of cotton
  • Strength of fiber
  • Length of fiber
  • Weather and other climatic conditions
  • Weave and finishing
  • Color
